Style Seeking Silence

So I have been pretty M.I.A on this blog for the best part of a month. For that I really apologise. I have had some pretty stressing personal things happening and needed to make the time to be with family and help out. Due to this I did not have the time, focus or energy to spend on creating, formatting and publishing posts how I normally would have.

I had to make a decison to forgo little, half-hearted posts as I have really tried to make this blog about quality and not have a heavy emphasis on quantity. I will definitely be amping up my posting as much as I can in the next two weeks as I will be overseas on a holiday next month and will publish posts occasionally during this time but will be mainly living it (and shopping it) up - then reporting back of course!
While I have been absent from publishing here, I kept up regular posting on my instagram feed - if you love this blog and don't already follow or look out for me on instagram - you really should (look for @saregiak and click follow for daily style tidbits, quotes and a look into my life). I have kept up April Style Dare by Fox in Flats and am thoroughly enjoying May's Style Dare - you should really join this style dare, fashion and beauty loving, foxy/sexy/fun-loving community if you: a) love fashion b) want to push your boundaries c) want to add life (or rekindle the life) of your wardrobe. We all try not to buy anything new JUST to complete a dare! The daily prompts make me think outside the box...

So now that I have apologised for my silence - and I hope you are all still reading (I have noticed a good amount of readership filtering through which I really appreciate!) as there have been some exciting things coming our way lately! I have a few projects in the works... more on some of these as they develop in future posts!

As for now?

Here are some posts/things you can expect from For the Style Seeking Girl in the next two weeks:

FABruary Week Two!

Life got pretty busy in February, sorry I mean FABruary...
For those of you who are wondering if I have suddenly just changed the name of a month, you must have been living under a rock. Fabruary is the name given to a style dare by Andrea at Fox in Flats.

Anyway I was going to post each week with an update of my outfits styled via a prompt each day for those of you who do not connect with me via instagram ( @saregiak ) or twitter (@SarahGiak  @styleseekgirl)... I didn't get past week one with updating but made sure to keep up the challenge each day - today I am going to fire off some quick updates of Fabruary and then talk to you about the style dare put together for March! We are only three days in, so if you would love to try this start now! (you can catch up the first two days of the month or just start from now).

Prompt list:
Fabruary Week Two 08.02.13 - 14.02.13

Day Eight: Noisy
Created a stack of bracelets to add to a beaded cuff. Total arm candy. Used mixed sets from Eqiup, Venice Beach (L.A), Las Vegas, Jewellers. Inexpensive and expensive mixed together. I wrote about this trend loved by Nicole Ritchie and Blake Lively in Hint of Glamour #3

Day Nine: Killer Heels
These were the heels I wore for my 21st birthday.. Loved them! They went perfectly with my dress which finished above the knee, had multiple layers including tulle. These are nude suede with leather strips, called 'Spiderweb' found at ZU Shoes

Day Ten: Bright
A bright red sundress and bright accessories hanging in my wardrobe

Day Eleven: Belted
Trialing outfits for my next trip (European adventure), decided to use the sundress from Day Ten and make different versions of an outfit. This is my favourite - perfect for a casual dinner / night out.

Day Twelve: Orange Lipstick
Used two products from Nutrimetics - a lipstick and a lipgloss to create a tangerine hue. Peach cheeks, mascara and defined eyebrows completed the look.
(Note: the products used I had recieved a couple years ago - I am not sure if they are available. I used Brilliant Shine lipstick in Mandarin and Shimmer Gloss in Apricot)

Day Thirteen: Flats
Pink/Nude hued ballet flats with tiered gold zips with a sneaky leopard print inside!

Day Fourteen: Quiff
I love a good quiff, and was quite disappointed that my first nightshift back at work co-incided with this challenge. This was taken five minutes after I got home (at 8am) after starting work at 7pm the night before. A quick quiff woven in twists finishing in a messy knot at the base of my neck. Quickly followed by sleeping all day!!

So there you have it, my week two. For more pics search this hashtag - #fabruary on instagram and twitter. FABruary Week One!

I love a photo challenge... they feed my instagram addiction! (find me @saregiak)... I have been an eager participant in Photo a Day by Fat Mum Slim where you are given a word or three and have to take a photo - capturing or inspired by the prompt and share it on your chosen social medium(s). I will publish a post over the next couple of days with January's photos and start doing updates on what I have posted for February....

But this post is about a completley different challenge. A style challenge created by Andrea the wonderful woman behind Fox in Flats encouraging and assisting mothers to keep up their style and be inspired by fashion! I Love this site. I am not a mother, but as a full time worker I find the tips and tricks on this site to be incredibly useful, and totally inspiring as a relatively newbie trying to breakthrough into the world of styling and blogging.

So February, is now Fabruary (click the link to check out Andrea's post)... one item or prompt listend for each day, all you have to do is use the item or prompt and style it within or as your outfit.. So much fun! A challenge too when I have a structured work uniform (scrubs) and I try to think outside the box or atleast aim to showcase my individual style so it stands out from all the thousands of uploaded photos. It also means that you can push yourself out of your comfort zone and try new styles or items you have kept 'just in case'.
I love that the hashtag (#fabruary and #foxinflats) has opened me up to another aspect of the styling world I love, I get to obsess over styling and fashion every single day. Below are the prompts followed by the first seven days I have so far completed...

Fabruary Week One! From Fox in Flats .. 01.02.13-07.02.13

Day One: Sunglasses
Vintage Styled Leopard Print Sunglasses (perfect stylish look to cover day after nightshift eyes!)

Day Two: Glitter
Anyone who knows me is well aware that glitter or shimmer in my makeup is nothing new.. But rarely (except for new years eve and a night in Las Vegas in 2012) have I created an entire 'eye' out of glitter. I was in a smokey eye mood this day, so created it all out of glitter using products from Australis, Kat Von D and UrbanColour Makeup... with made up brows of course!

Day Three: Checks/Plaid
Had so many options but settled on a vintage cropped jacket I purchased two and a half years ago from an opshop (steal at $10).. Has a tweed look with some mauve through it - perfect with my new mani (which I got on day one). Loved the look, hadn't worn this item in 2 years!

Day Four: Ponytail.
The aim was to break away from your standard or go-to pony. I went for a 90s flashback -think almost baby spice or the like. Was a very fresh feeling look and I loved the compliments I recieved! Will add it to my own looks now. Had a side part which turned into two twists, scrunched pony for some body and hair wrapped around/concealing elastic.

Day Five: Leather
Vintage Jacket I had originally purchased from Kiss My Button Vintage paired with a long, slouchy t-shirt and blue accessories with naturally curled hair.. No makeup as off to get a facial!

Day Six: Green
Had to go to work for a long-ish shift... had to be a bit subtle with the green so put on my black eyeliner - with winged tips of course and then 'shadow lined' that eyeliner with mint green eyeliner.. Loved it SO much that I have added flecks of green since then!

Day Seven: Statement Earrings
I had a 12hour shift at work and cannot wear long earrings. So at first I was stumped. BUT...today I wore statement studs.. well to be honest, I don't even think they can be called studs! Each one is as big as my thumb, they are Leopards - black and gold- with holes for a mouth cut out. I got so many comments on them today, so they definitely created some impact!

Have you joined FABruary?? If so, please comment where you are uploading and I will keep an eye out for your pictures! I will do a weekly roundup for the next three weeks but you can check in daily via instagram (@saregiak) or twitter (@sarahgiak). Which day do you like best so far?

Seven Day Challenge (Hair Dare)

Due to the fantastic six degrees of separation Instagram provides I came across Fox in Flats who provides inspiration and hints for good style in motherhood. I certainly am not a mother, but I have fallen in love with this site and with the updates I get since clicking the 'follow' button (check out @foxinflats). They also have a facebook page click here. It is fun, stylish and there are dares!

The current one (which I only discovered yesterday) is a hair dare. Encouraging those involved to step out of hair comfort zones and try something different. I know my hair comfort (since I cut it short) is a looped ponytail (you know the half pulled through ponytail) - especially at work. So I decided I would accept the challenge, for the next seven days my hair would have to be different from the last.

Yesterday (Jan 17) was my day one - I had to go to work and it reminded me of those 1950s posters with the girls with headscarves tied in a bow around their head. I did a variation of this in that I formed a messy bun and used a headscarf only around the bun to form a bow. Add winged eyeliner and I was ready!

Keen to see if I can do this! I know it would have been so easy with my long hair so I was even more driven to accept this dare. I will update daily on here and then at the end (if I can complete it) I will post all the pics together..

Let me know if you are doing it too! Follow @saregiak on instagram or @sarahgiak on twitter to see the pics as they are taken. As always would love to read your comments or click me an email to kooklahstyle@gmail.com

Go on, style it up... I dare you! ;)
